‘Grand Alliance partners against PothiReddiPadu, Polavaram and Pulichintala’
KADAPA: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy rightfully said that augmentation of Pothireddipadu head regulator capacity and irrigation projects such as Polavaram and Pulichinthala will be shelved if Grand Alliance gains power, Rayalaseema Karmika Karshaka Samithi president Ch. Chandrasekhar Reddy and Kadapa District Rythu Sangham president D. Chandramouleeswara Reddy asserted on Friday.
Projects issue
The Telugu Desam Party had boycotted an all-party meeting on Pothireddipadu issue, while TRS and CPI(M) staunchly opposed it, but the CPI alone extended support, they recalled at a press conference here.
The CPI(M) moved court on Polavaram project and the four parties were not in favour of the irrigation projects, they alleged.
Despite impediments, Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy took up enhancement of Pothireddipadu head regulator capacity to meet aspirations of Rayalaseema people. Polavaram project was also taken up despite the Opposition moving court to stall it, they alleged. Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy recalled the stand taken in the past by the Opposition parties and sought vote for the Congress, but did not attempt to rake up regional rifts, they said.
‘Eye on polls’
Mr. Chandrasekhar Reddy and Mr. Chandramouleeswara Reddy deplored the assertions of leaders such as Haragopal that YSR was adopting a regional chauvinistic stand.
He asked why no intellectual reacted when TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao threatened to drive away industrialists and educationalists from Hyderabad. Different parties were speaking now for political gains but not because they were in favour of development, they alleged.
