KADAPA: The Supreme Court verdict upholding the High Court judgement of life sentence to 11 accused in the sensational murder case of Yeduguri Sandinti Raja Reddy, father of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, comes exactly 17 days before Raja Reddy’s 11th death anniversary.
He was targeted while returning from Y.S. Estates at Idupulapaya in Vempalle mandal on May 23, 1998, when the TDP was in power.
A group of persons hiding in roadside bushes waylaid him in Vemula and hurled bombs at his car. Raja Reddy was killed instantly when a bomb hurled at close range hit him on the head.
16 TDP men Booked
The CID, which was entrusted the investigation, booked cases against 16 TDP activists in the case.
It, however, excluded one of the main accused, the then Vemula mandal president S.V. Satish Kumar Reddy, from the list. But, he is facing trial for gunning down two Congress activists during the cooperative elections in Vempula.
Pulivendula market committee chairman Perla Parthasarathy Reddy, was among those sentenced to life imprisonment.
While another accused Brahmananda Reddy died in an accident, three others are serving life imprisonment after their conviction in a double murder case.
Of the 16, two had died while two others were excluded from the list of accused by CID. S.V. Satish Kumar Reddy, who contested as Telugu Desam Party candidate against the Chief Minister from Pulivendula Assembly segment in this election and the then Vemula mandal president, and Perla Parthasarathi Reddy, then Pulivendula market committee chairman, who were booked as conspirators, have been dropped from the list of accused.
Retaliatory attack
The brutal murder enraged Congress supporters who killed an accused Perla Umamaheswara Reddy. They ransacked and set ablaze properties of TDP members in Vemula and Pulivendula.
An accused Perla Umamaheswara Reddy, brother of Mr. Parthasarathy Reddy has been killed in a retaliatory attack and another accused, Brahmananda Reddy, died in an accident later. The 11 persons sentenced to life term are Perla Ramanjaneya Reddy, Perla Somasekhara Reddy, Perla Ramakrishna Reddy, Perla Sesha Reddy, Annareddy Sambasiva Reddy, Annareddy Srinivasulu Reddy, Annareddy Dasaratha Reddigari Lakshmi Reddy, Poreddy Viswanatha Reddy, Palle Venkatarami Reddy, Vadderapu Obaiah and Rajipalle Sudhakara Reddy.
Double murder
Nine of them are lodged in Kadapa Central Prison since the High Court judgement on September 29, 2006, and two others are serving life-term in a case of double murder of two Congress activists.
